Glasgow Festivals 2008

Glasgow River Festival

Glasgow's 'Friendly City' image is evident in the numerous festivals and events that take place in the city throughout the year. The city's festivals are vibrant, colourful and never fail to entertain the thousands of visitors coming from all corners of the globe.

Live Music and Dramatic Arts are strongly represented in Glasgow's festival calendar. Summer events include open-air festivals such as the West End Festival and Bard in the Botanics. Other summer-time cultural and musical events include The Glasgow International Jazz Festival featuring well-known performers in the blues and jazz arena.

Each September, Glasgow hosts The Great Scottish Run, one of the largest racing events in the UK where participants can choose to run the half marathon or the 10K. The race is routed through Glasgow's verdant open spaces and parks, passing by the city's landmarks before finishing in Glasgow Green.

The year's festivities end with a bang in December with Glasgow On Ice and Christmas Markets in George Square on the run up to the ultimate party festival of the year, Hogmanay, celebrated in true Celtic style in George Square and various venues throughout the city.

The list below features Glasgow's main festivals which take place every year. Some events have their own web site where you can find more information.
