Botanic Gardens

Glasgow boasts around 70 public parks and open spaces, each with its own distinctive charm and character. They are most certainly worth exploring, whether for a gentle stroll, relaxation or leisure purposes during your visit to Glasgow.

Within walking distance of the Belhaven, the Botanic Gardens are a popular and stunning open space. You can enjoy lunch al fresco, take a relaxing stroll or simply appreciate the spectacular collection of tropical plants in the Winter Gardens. Kelvingrove Park is another equally accessible and popular retreat in Glasgow's West End. Designed by prolific Victorian landscape designer, Sir Joseph Paxton, it exudes splendour and elegance.

In the Scotstoun area to the west of the city, Victoria Park offers a variety of treasures including the superb Fossil Grove, a spectacular collection of preserved tree fossils discovered when the park was being built in the late 19th Century. It is home to colourful floral displays and a host of activities from lawn bowling to tennis courts.

To the east of the city centre lies Glasgow Green, gifted to the city by Bishop Turnbull in 1450. The oldest park in the city by far, it provides the focal point for various events throughout the year. The Green's main attraction is the People's Palace and Winter Gardens where you can explore the story of Glasgow from 1175 to the present day or relax and enjoy the tropical plants in the stunning Victorian glasshouse of the Winter Gardens.

In the south of the city, Pollok Country Park is the largest of the city's parks and open spaces. It is also home to the elegant Pollok House, a former residence of the Maxwell Family and now a heritage site with enchanting exhibits of Renaissance and Spanish Art. Or enjoy the 9,000 plus exhibits at the Burrell Collection, just across Pollok Park.

We invite you to explore one of the many parks dotted around Glasgow, some which offer spectacular views of the city and beyond.
