Situated in the heart of Glasgow beneath
Central Station, The Arches is an arts receiving and arts production
house and its fundamental aim is to showcase a programme of arts events
that mirrors the cultural aspirations of the local community. The
Arches aims to reflect the city's cosmopolitan aspirations as well
as establishing new international links and generating new types of
cultural activity.
Established in 1991, The Arches is a registered charity and non-profit
organisation and is still managed by founding Artistic Director, Andy
Arnold. |

|
Theatre is at the core of the organisation,
proudly promoting its own Arches Theatre Company to the international
theatre circuit. The Arches is also one of Glasgow's leading venues
for live concerts, late nightclubs, exhibitions and a plethora of
other arts events and performances.
The building features temporary exhibition spaces on the main floor
and work shop, a sound recording studio and rehearsal spaces for bands
and DJs on the lower floor. Dressing Room facilities, technical and
equipment storage areas, design and production offices and prop rooms
are also situated in the lower floor for performers. A late nightclub
featuring DJs and live music is located at the Midland Street entrance,
accessible from Jamaica Street.
A host of events take place throughout the building simultaneously
and throughout the day, enabling the venue to a run a festival style
programme on a regular basis. Arches Festivals include The National
Review of Live Art, Instal, Celtic Connections, Arches Festivals Theatre
and Arches Live.
The Arches has now transformed into a fully accessible venue for people
to socialise, dine and visit arts events and theatrical performances
following an extensive refurbishment programme. For further information
about events at the Arches, please see our list of live music and
theatrical performances below for October and November 2005. |
