| Glasgow Theatre Royal is the home of The
Scottish Opera and Scottish Ballet Companies as well as other world-renowned
arts companies such as the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal
National Theatre. This Late Victorian Theatre received extensive refurbishment
in the 1990s and reception, public areas and back stage refurbishments

| The Theatre Royal received funding for
further a refurbishment programme in 1997 encompassing seat replacement
and reupholstering and the extension to the orchestra pit. The first
Theatre opened in 1867 and subsequently re-opened in 1895 following
two fires. Since then The Theatre Royal has established itself as
one of the finest in the world of entertainment and classical stage
performances. The theatre stages a dynamic plethora of drama, dance, comedy, opera, celebrity talks and appearances, musical and children's theatrical productions and serves as a unique venue for conferences, meetings and seminars. The Victorian Auditorium and Corporate areas have preserved their Victorian opulence juxtaposed with a contemporary feel. Both the Auditorium and Conference Facilities can be hired out for special and private occasions.
