The Tron Theatre has been a familiar landmark
in Glasgow's Merchant City for centuries and is easily identified
by its stunning 16th Century steeple. Situated just yards from Glasgow
Cross, this thriving theatre has been a popular cultural venue for
the last twenty years.
Following a £5 million extensive refurbishment programme in
1999, The Tron has proudly transformed itself into an extraordinary
architectural collection of historical buildings contrasted with contemporary
new spaces, designed by cutting edge architects RMJM. The Tron plays
host to an enviable array of conference and entertainment facilities
tailored for corporate events, conferences and seminars. The Theatre
is also a leading venue for Glasgow's festivals including Celtic Connections,
Glasgow International Jazz Festival, Glasgow International Comedy
Festival, New Territories and Glasgay!
The Tron is an established powerhouse of dynamic productions of classic
texts and new material, taking full advantage of existing and emerging
Scottish talent. Acclaimed performers to emerge from the Tron include
Alan Cumming, Forbes Masson, Peter Mullin, Craig Ferguson and Siobhan
Redmond amongst others. Many of these artists continue to maintain
close links with the Tron.
The theatre is home to the renowned and highly acclaimed Tron Theatre
Company and throughout the last couple of years; the company has been
rewarded for their successful productions, including Possible Words
by John Mighton, Love Freaks by Iain Heggie and the award winning
Shining Souls which won best production in the first Critics Awards
for Theatre in Scotland in 2003. The Tron has come along way from
its humble beginnings in 1979 and is now a leading player in Scottish
Theatre.
Current productions at The Tron include David Greig's 'San Diego',
co-produced with Edinburgh International Festival and the award winning
'The Wonderful World of Dissocia' by Anthony Neilson which successfully
received 5 out of 10 awards in the 2005 Critics Awards for Theatre
in Scotland. For more information about future events and performances
at The Tron Theatre, please visit the website or contact information
